"An innovative approach to language learning"
'Language & Adventure' is a unique language based tour that teaches and
promotes five different languages in combination with adventure sports.
We offer language programmes in French, German, Spanish, Italian and
Irish and cater for students from 1st to 6th Year or from Year 8 to A
Level for students from Northern Ireland. The established successful
programme was developed in 2001, and so far we have worked hundreds of
schools from the second level system in both the Republic of Ireland and
in Northern Ireland. We have 90% repeat business and continue to expand
in the education sector at both primary and secondary level. This
programme has been consistently endorsed by the Department of Education
in their subject inspection reports.
We have had hundreds of endorsements from second level teachers
throughout Ireland and thousands of students have requested return
visits to our facility. As a language teacher, I believe that the
students' enthusiasm to return again and again is our greatest
achievement in terms of encouraging students in their learning of
languages.
Our ethos is to make the whole process of learning an enjoyable
experience, whilst instilling confidence and competence in the practice
of languages. Our aim is to help students develop a positive perspective
of languages and we consistently remind students of the positive
outcomes of language learning, such as a positive impact on future
employment options.
We combine language workshops with adventure activities in order to make
the whole experience a truly unforgettable one for students. Activities
include surfing, kayaking, cliff jumping, skateboarding, team building,
climbing tower, abseiling, high & low ropes courses, archery and lots
more.
The motto at ‘Language & Adventure’ is ‘work hard ------ play hard’. We
expect students to work hard and actively take part in their language
workshops. Classes are quite intensive and we insist that students are
focused and diligent throughout. Language workshops run for three hours
and it is imperative to us that students cover a lot of ground during
these sessions. Our expectations in terms of behaviour and language
acquisition are made clear at the start of each lesson and teachers are
insistent that students work to the best of their ability for the
duration of the language session. Our language teachers are chosen for
their ability to teach in a positive and enthusiastic manner, thus
ensuring that students are enthused and motivated whilst learning.
Students often comment that they feel like they are being ‘rewarded’ for
their hard work in class when they get the chance to try some of the
fantastic adventure sports on offer. The fact that we intertwine
language workshops with adventure sports ensures that students associate
the language programme with fun and laughter.
The staff who do the adventure activities with the students are not
language teachers, but instead are highly trained outdoor instructors.
They play a vital role in encouraging students to undertake tasks
individually, as well as part of a group and thus assist in developing a
sense of confidence, leadership and team spirit amongst students.
